History in West Africa

With a university, mosques and over a hundred schools Timbuktu was a cultural center. in the 1500's the demand in the Europe's American colonies changed the relation. West Africa societies are very diverse. There are three main influences: traditional African culture and Islam. There were a lot of different ethnic groups. Country borders sometimes separated members of the same ethnic group. Traditionally, religion of West Africa has often been forms of animism. The most two common religions were Islamic and Christianity. West Africans wore a mix of traditional and modern style clothing. Rural homes were built out of mud, straw, brick or tin. However, in cities in West Africa people may live in apartments or houses.
